Vehicle Encampment Project – Services Coordinator

The Services Coordinator for the Vehicle Encampment Resolution Project will be responsible for assisting individuals and families living in their vehicles to transition into stable housing. Full Time, Hourly Non-Exempt. The Services Coordinator will work directly with vehicle-dwelling individuals, offering case management, connecting them with social services and local resources, and coordinating efforts with various stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive support system. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, excellent organizational skills, and a deep commitment to addressing homelessness.

The Encampment Resolution Project will work to resolve 21 vehicle encampments county-wide. The Services Coordinator will report to the Encampment Resolution Project Coordinator and the Vehicle Encampment Resolution Program Manager. The goal of the project is to house 150-300 individuals residing in these encampments. We are hiring three Services Coordinators, two based out of our South County office in Santa Barbara – one dedicated to the City of Santa Barbara and one dedicated to the county, as well as one Services Coordinator for North County, based out of our Lompoc and Santa Maria offices

The Services Coordinator will be in the field with the team at least 75% of the time.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Case Management:
    • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for individuals and families living in vehicles.
    • Develop personalized service plans to address immediate and long-term needs.
    • Provide ongoing support and case management to help clients transition into stable housing.
    • Track and document client progress, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  2. Resource Coordination:
    • Connect clients with available resources, including shelter, housing programs, employment services, healthcare, and social services.
    • Collaborate with local service providers, non-profits, and government agencies to coordinate resources and services.
    • Facilitate access to emergency services as needed.
  3. Community Outreach and Engagement:
    • Conduct outreach to vehicle encampments to identify and engage with individuals and families in need of services.
    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local authorities.
    • Organize and participate in community meetings, workshops, and events to raise awareness about available services and resources.
  4. Project Coordination:
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the Vehicle Encampment Resolution Project’s strategies and goals.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the project, suggesting improvements and adjustments as needed.
    • Prepare regular reports on project progress and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Maintains client related data systems, including case notes and Fulcrum and HMIS entries.
  5. Advocacy and Policy:
    • Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals living in their vehicles.
    • Stay informed about local, state, and federal policies affecting homelessness and vehicle dwellers.
    • Participate in policy discussions and contribute to the development of best practices and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in social work, human services, public administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in social services, case management, or a related area, preferably with homeless populations.
  • Strong understanding of homelessness issues, particularly those affecting individuals and families living in vehicles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with case management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must have own transportation to conduct job related travel
  • Must successfully complete a background check and meet insurance carrier’s requirements for approval to drive.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingual in English and [Other Language].
  • Experience in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of local social service resources and housing programs.

Application Information:

Work hours are Monday – Friday, 9-5 although there will be some night time and weekend hours on occasion to attend community events, conduct early morning or late night collaborative outreach efforts, or attend to emergent client and administrative needs. Starting salary is $25 – $28 per hour with medical and dental benefits provided, 403b contribution and matching, as well as generous paid time off. Position begins immediately. This is not a remote position.
