# New Beginnings Counseling Center

> New Beginnings Counseling Center (NBCC) is a Santa Barbara County, California nonprofit providing affordable mental health counseling, housing assistance, and life skills programs to low-income individuals, families, and veterans. Founded over 50 years ago, NBCC serves approximately 2,000 people annually through its Counseling Center, Safe Parking & Rapid Rehousing Program, Veterans Program, and Life Skills & Parenting program.

NBCC's mission is to provide quality, affordable counseling, shelter, case management, and education that strengthen the community and help clients lead healthy and productive lives. The organization operates on a person-centered, trauma-informed philosophy and offers some of the lowest sliding-scale mental health fees in the area — many clients pay less than $15 per session, and no one is turned away for inability to pay. NBCC's Safe Parking Program was the first of its kind in the nation and has been replicated by dozens of other communities. Its Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program is the leading rapid rehousing program for veterans in Santa Barbara County.

Offers a traineeship setting for masters- and doctoral-level counselors.
- [Safe Parking Program](https://sbnbcc.org/safe-parking/): The nation's first Safe Parking program, providing safe overnight parking and rapid rehousing support for individuals and families living in their vehicles.
