Life Skills Coordinator and Group Facilitator Part-time
The Life Skills Coordinator and Psychoeducational Group Facilitator position is a part-time position of up to four-to-six hours per week at New Beginnings Counseling Center. New Beginnings has offered a Life Skills Parenting Education Program for more than 20 years. The Life Skills Parenting Education Program has provided low-income and at-risk parents with the critical skills and tools they need to make healthy, positive and lasting behavioral changes for their families. The program, provided at no cost to both clients and sponsoring agencies, consists of a series of psychoeducational classes and hands-on parenting skills, mindfulness strategies, and overall life skills provided to groups of struggling, low-income parents. Over the years, the Life Skills Program has expanded the classes and groups offered to meet various needs of the community and community partners, including but not limited to Mindfulness groups, Parenting groups, Women’s Empowerment groups, DBT and Seeking Safety for Veterans groups, among others.
The Life Skills Coordinator will:
- Oversee all activities relating to the provision of the program
- Coordinate the offering of time-limited and ongoing psychoeducational classes and groups for the community or community partners
- Schedule classes/trainings with internal and external staff and counselors
- Develop and update curricula
- Co-facilitate psychoeducational groups in both English and Spanish (if bi-lingual) one or two evenings per week if and as needed
- Serve as a liaison between New Beginnings and community agencies and clients, including attending monthly meetings as required
- Oversee and report on the administration and collection of qualitative, demographic and outcome data for all people served through the Life Skills Program on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Report out monthly updates to the Executive Director and Grants Administration Director
- Aid in selection and creation of anecdotal stories to be included in the newsletter as well as summarizing programs offered and reporting out metrics to support the Grants Administration Director
Requirements include maintaining a knowledge of the principles of psychotherapeutic techniques, child psychology, developmental psychology, and current models of parenting; the ability to develop, coordinate, and evaluate a program that is designed to expand, improve, and monitor psychoeducational services for mental health clients; the ability to analyze and evaluate programmatic and administrative activities, make comprehensive studies and evaluations, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations; the ability to make presentations to civic and community organizations to provide information concerning the program; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, community partners, service provider staff, client advocacy groups, and the general public. Bi-lingual preferred but not required.
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field required, Master’s or Doctoral level preferred, with 2+ years’ experience working within community mental health or related field. Intern hours and supervision available.
Work hours are Monday – Friday, 9-6 although there may be some night time or weekend hours on occasion to facilitate a group. Position is part-time hourly paid $25 per hour with medical, dental and vision benefits provided, 403b contribution and matching, as well as other benefits and very generous paid time off. Position begins asap.
